You know whats inside my makeup kit? One mineral Foundation, two shades of blush, 2 palettes of eye shadow, organic eyeliner and around 10 tubes of mineral lipstick. Yes I so love lipstick that whenever I walk in the cosmetics section of a department store, I cannot resist but look at the different colors and brands of lipstick.
But despite my fascination with cosmetics and lipsticks in particular, I am also conscious about the components that each of my preferred brand have. Some of todays organic mineral foundations are actually using ingredients that may irritate your skin or worse may be using ingredients identified in with certain illnesses like cancer. So as a consumer, you should be able to learn how to identify the ingredients present in your mineral makeup. You should be even more selective when it comes to lipstick as this is involuntarily ingested. According to a test conducted by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, 61% out of 33 popular cosmetics brands tested positive for lead content in their products. Another study was conducted, this time by the Food & Drug Administration, in 2009 wherein 3 cosmetics company were identified as having manufactured lipsticks with the highest level of lead content. These companies are as follows: Procter & Gamble (for Cover Girl), LOreal and Maybelline and Revlon. However, no action was taken to discontinue manufacturing any of these identified brands.
But lucky for us consumers, there are several cosmetics companies which manufacture safer organic cosmetics. And luck for me, I can still continue my mineral lipstick spree despite these developments. One such cosmetics company offers a wide range of mineral cosmetic, mineral lipstick
and even organic cosmetic brushes. The list of ingredients is also available in the website for everyone to see. This transparency makes me more comfortable getting my cosmetic needs from them. Interestingly enough, the website also has a link to the Environmental Working Groups website where you can browse for yourself, how your cosmetic brand or your specific makeup or lipstick is rated relative to health hazards posed. A rating of 0-2 is considered low hazard, 3-6 is considered as moderately hazardous while 7-10 is considered highly hazardous to health.
