Natural cosmetics have become big business, with consumers increasingly moving away from the use of regular brand name cosmetics. Naturally, and as is to be expected, there are a number of reasons for the current trend, and that’s what we’ll be looking at in the paragraphs that follow.
For several decades, and I mean several, the big name companies have dominated the cosmetics industry, and they’ve done so ruthlessly. Some might argue that this is what being in business is all about, and that businesses are, after all, in business to make money; to get the best possible return on investment. Others might want to point out that this is what capitalism is all about, and yes, they would be right, but when the lives of ordinary people are put at risk, the people have a right to begin asking questions. In my opinion, this is exactly what’s been happening in recent years, and that’s why we’re seeing such a dramatic shift towards natural cosmetics as opposed to regular brand name cosmetics.
Cancer rates are escalating at an unbelievable pace, and even the most skeptical researchers will agree that chemicals and pollutants are largely to blame for this. Yes, diets and a sedentary lifestyle also contribute, but nowhere near as much as the chemicals which have quite literally invaded our lives. From the time we wake up in the morning, to the time we go to bed at night, we’re exposing ourselves to chemicals. My logic tells me this is like a time bomb, and it’s a time bomb which has already been ticking for a very long time. Fortunately, more and more people are beginning to realize it.
We get out of bed, we go for a shower, and so it begins. The regular soap which so many people use is full of chemicals, one of which is Triclosan, but we’ll come back to this in a moment. Nice and refreshed from our shower, we sit down for breakfast (a healthy meal I hope) and then we dash off to brush our teeth with toothpaste, which in all probability also contains Triclosan. Just as we’re about to leave, nature calls, and we need to go to the toilet. In the bathroom, we lift the toilet seat, which contains Triclosan, and then we relieve ourselves into the toilet, which once again, contains Triclosan.
What Is This Triclosan?
You’ll find Triclosan in many cosmetic products, including regular personal hygiene products, such as those mentioned above. You’ll also find it in weed killers and etc. It’s a powerful antibacterial and anti-fungicidal chemical. Because it’s highly effective, and also incredibly cheap, the cosmetics industry has been using it for decades. When this chemical comes into contact with ultraviolet light, such as sunlight, it can and does form dioxins, and dioxins are known to be extremely toxic, and capable of disrupting the human endocrine system. To make matters worse, dioxins, as a chemical, are very stable, which means the process of elimination from the body is very slow, thereby allowing them to accumulate.
The cosmetics industry may try to play down the seriousness of this matter, but it seems government agencies are about to take action regarding the use of this dangerous chemical. Triclosan is just one harmful chemical you’re able to avoid by switching to natural cosmetics, but believe me, there are several other chemicals being used which are equally as bad, if not worse.
